(Cape Town) – Filming on The Dark Tower, based on the popular Stephen King novel, has commenced in the Mother City.
The film stars Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black and Idris Elba as the wandering gunslinger who is the last hope of the land Mid-World.
Vikings actress Katheryn Winnick confirmed the location by sharing a handful of images on Instagram of herself on set. In one photo she is seen covering her character’s name on a sign posted on her trailer, as her role in the film is still unknown.
The film will be set in the modern world and follow the gunslinger as he searches for the Dark Tower while battling his enemy the Man in Black. According to King, the adaptation will start in the middle of the story instead of the beginning.
Fran Kranz will take on the role of Pimli, the right-hand man of McConaughey’s character. Abbey Lee will portray Tirana, Jackie Earle Haley will be Sayre and Tom Taylor is Jake Chambers. Nikolaj Arcei will helm the feature, with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer as producers.
The Dark Tower will be released in theaters on Feb. 17, 2017.
