(JOHANNESBURG) – Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane has announced the recent heavy downpours in some parts of the country have had a significant impact on dam levels countrywide.
The country’s dams had been at their lowest in over three years due to the recent drought.
She has held a Sunday afternoon media briefing at the Vaal Dam on, where dam levels have now reached over 97%.
Mokonyane says the increase in dam levels is evident countrywide.
“The increase in dam levels results from the significant rainfall over primarily four days of good rain in the past week.”
The minister however says some provinces are still red with little or no rain at all.
