(Cape Town)- After eight years of operation, Silicon Cape has its first permanent Managing Director, Ellen Fischat.
Until the appointment of Nozuko Poni as the marketing and project coordinator in March, Silicon Cape had been a predominantly volunteer-driven organisation. The appointment of Fischat is another critical step in bringing structure and focus to the Initiative which has big plans and strategies to deliver in the next two years as it meets its mandate to create a strong, vibrant and diverse tech eco-system in the province.
Fischat has moved to Cape Town from PE to take up the role. She has most recently been the ‘Business Support Manager’ at the Propella Business Incubator in Port Elizabeth.
Dan Guasco, Silicon Cape chair says, “There were many applications for the role and while there were a number of very strong candidates the selection committee was struck by Ellen’s public-private-partnership and fundraising experience which will massively assist Silicon Cape in achieving its goals. This and her fresh perspective on the local eco-system, balanced against her enthusiasm for tech in the Western Cape made Ellen the right choice for us.”
Fischat holds an Honours degree in Social Work and Community Development. She has extensive experience in small business development, with a focus on social enterprises and technology and is passionate about community outreach programmes that focus on digital literacy and social inclusion.
