(Cape Town) – Cointreau, the iconic triple sec brand, has announced Outliers as the winner of its Cointreau Creative Crew (CCC) Grant Scheme. The philanthropic initiative sought to identify and empower female creativity across South Africa. The winner was announced by the judging panel at the CCC Grand Finale earlier this month, and was awarded a R100 000 grant prize.
Outliers is a mentorship programme for passionate people wanting to set up and run afterschool tutoring programs. Outliers partners with these individuals, mentoring and supporting them as they set up safe spaces for learning in disadvantaged communities.
Since the start of 2017, the organization has grown from 52 to 60 after-school sites in communities across Cape Town, impacting more than 3 000 young people. Together, this network of amazing people, brought together by Outliers, provide access to quality academic support in tutoring programs.
“I want to see young people daring to be different, to have the confidence to be themselves, and to live out their dreams of creating new realities in their communities,” said Heidi Segal, founder of Outliers.
Heidi anticipates growth in number of sites in the network to 100 sites by the end of 2017. The CCC Grant Prize will go towards additional resources required to mentor and train these facilitators, and to support and equip them with resources required to run the tutoring programmes.
“There were a number of specific criteria that the finalists were judged on, ranging from authenticity to social relevance. Outliers ticked all the boxes and blew the judging panel away with the ideas and passion. Not only does this programme address a very serious and relevant social issue in our country, but does it in a way that truly inspires others to make a change as well,” says Cointreau South Africa’s brand manager, Tamika Sewnarain.
The CCC is a global initiative made up of influential game-changing individuals who are independent, driven and inspiring. The concept aims to inspire individuals to fulfil their dreams, dare to be creative, believe in their dreams and bring them to life.
