Everything you need to know about plastic pollution and how to cut back

plastic pollution

This comprehensive guide will help you learn more about plastic pollution and how you can help save our oceans.

On June 8 we observe World Oceans Day globally to honour, help protect, and conserve the ocean. It’s no secret that one of the biggest threats to our oceans is plastic pollution, with a 2017 study estimating that between 1.15 to 2.41 million tonnes of plastic enters the oceans via rivers annually.

According to a scientific report released by A Plastic Ocean, marine plastic debris has impacted over 600 marine species from the bottom to the top of the food chain, many dying a slow agonizing death through entanglement or ingesting plastic.

It’s not a pretty picture but the good news is that it’s not too late to learn about plastic pollution and how you can cut back and help protect and honour our precious oceans. And we found the perfect site to get you started!

SLO active, a social enterprise dedicated to cleaning up our oceans, published a comprehensive guide, detailing the facts and figures of plastic pollution, the impact on our oceans and marine life, and what you can do to reduce your plastic waste.

From tips like avoiding bottled water and plastic bags to beach clean-ups initiatives and information on plastic pollution charities, the SLO active guide can turn you into an everyday plastic-free activist.

You can access the SLO active guide here to get tips for avoiding plastic every day, learn about microplastics, Plastic Recycling Initiatives and much more!
