After wowing the judges and fans throughout the competition, Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi managed to swoop the title – and even Oprah has congratulated her.
Congratulations Miss South Africa, the new Miss Universe @zozitunzi! Agree with you…leadership is the most powerful thing we should be teaching young women today. We welcome your visit to #OWLAG, our Leadership Academy for Girls 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦 https://t.co/YL0NeO40QU

Many on social media are in awe of Tunzi’s powerful words at the pageant (about being a natural-haired role model to young girls across the world).
“ I want children to look at me and see my face. And I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”

Tunzi was born in Tsolo, Eastern Cape, and raised in the nearby village of Sidwadweni. She moved to Cape Town and began her pageantry career in 2017.
I think the most important thing we should be teaching young girls today is leadership. It’s something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time – not because we don’t want to, but because of what society has labelled women to be.
Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi
“I think we are the most powerful beings on the world, and that we should be given every opportunity, and that is what we should be teaching these young girls – to take up space. Nothing is as important as taking up space in society and cementing yourself,” Tunzi said.
