When President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the national lockdown on March 23, Tears Animal Rescue in Cape Town knew they would have to close their doors.
They made an urgent appeal on Facebook, asking for help to “activate #TheGreatEscape by providing a foster home for one or more of our rescue dogs for the duration of the lockdown”.
Kind-hearted Capetonians did what South Africans do in times of crisis – come together to help – and sp the more than 100 dogs in the rescue facility are now happily installed in their foster homes.
“We don’t have enough gratitude for the love that Cape Town has shown us.”

“We are committed to the safety and well-being of the animals in our care during these uncertain and challenging times, and being in a home with people who can provide a loving and safe environment, is the ideal solution until we know we can operate as normal.
