The local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has rescued a dog that they believe survived an attempt to drown it.
SPCA spokesperson Maureen Vida said the dog was rescued by senior inspector Marian Channon on Friday last week after she had received a call from a concerned member of the public who noticed the stray dog sleeping on the pavement in Prince Alfred Street.
When Channon found the dog, she was horrified at what she saw.
She said the dog had some hair loss but no injuries.
Vida said the SPCA had received calls that morning reporting the same dog running around in the vicinity of the Alexandra swimming pool very close to the river.
