Travel and tourism in South Africa and globally has come to a standstill as we stay home during the Covid-19 crisis. And, despite the country moving into level three soon, it’ll still be some time before we can visit our favourite South African places.
However, dozens of webcams are also still whirring away across the country to give you a real-time view of the world.
Here are some great live streams now available in South Africa, according to Business Insider:
Snow
Take a look at the ‘snowcam’ at the Sani Mountain Lodge, located on the border between South Africa and Lesotho.
Snow Report maintains several webcams throughout South Africa.
Wildlife
The Kruger National Park has strategically located webcams and can livestream the waterhole outside Satara rest camp as well as one just outside Orpen rest camp.
Addo Elephant National Park also has a livestream of a park waterhole, as well as a static camera.
The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spain Cape Town has a static webcam strategically placed to showcase their famous views of the Atlantic Ocean coastline and Lion’s Head. It updates new photographs every five minutes.
Surf website has several webcams located at beaches across the Cape Peninsula, including Muizenberg, Big Bay, Kommetjie and Noordhoek. Their main function is to show wave conditions at top surf spots.
The Bay Hotel in Camp’s Bay also has a webcam that makes one marvel at the currently eerily deserted Victoria Road and Camps Bay beach.
Knysna Heads also shows a new photograph every 60 seconds on their webcam.
Beaches and Ocean
Nossob Rest Camp, in the Kgalagadi Transfontier Park, has a static camera located over a tranquil watering hole, which is also in the view of a bushveld sunrise.
Africam has several cameras strategically placed in private game reserves.
Travel Company and Beyond has collaborated with WilfEarth to stream two three-hour game drives from Ngala and Djuma.
There are also high-quality of beaches in Balito, including Willard Bay and Salmon Bay, and Thompson’s Bay.
Mountains and Scenery
Climb Za hosts a mountain webcam in Montagu.
Capetonians missing Table Mountain can check in on it from a Milnerton webcam that updates every 10 minutes.
